Sadly, countless medical assistants have told us that not having sought certification was a mistake they came to regret. Their career went nowhere until they took charge and gave employers what they want.
Have a strategy! Give them what they want.

How to Say Thank You:
1. Treat Your Medical Assistant to Lunch
"Don't forget to take your assistant to lunch. Your treat, of course, shows your gratitude for all of the lunches she worked through over the year. Even if you can't afford a fancy meal, show your appreciation by bringing some home-baked goodies, organizing an office potluck in your assistant's honor, or having coworkers bring their lunch to gather and toast to him or her (diet Coke works fine!). If you're one of many assistants in your office, get a group together for a celebratory lunch.
2. Send a Card
If you want to keep things simple yet meaningful send a thoughtful card telling your medical assistant professional how valuable you think he or she is to your office. If you're the boss, don't delegate this. Make sure you write it yourself! It will make the card more meaningful and every medical assistant appreciated that special recognition from the doctor or office manager.
3. Make a Donation to a Favorite Charity
Donating to your office assistant's favorite charity is a nice way to say thank you while helping the community. Often the organizations will provide you with a card saying that a donation has been made in someone's name. This option is great for a socially conscious assistant or someone who doesn't like a lot of fuss!
4. Give a Gift Certificate
Some people think giving money is tacky, but a gift certificate to a favorite clothing, record or bookstore shows you've thought about the person's interests and allows your assistant to pick his or her ideal gift. If you are not certain which store he or she favors, give a certificate to a local mall or shopping center; these can usually be used at any store in the complex. Pooling resources with others in the office is an economical way to say thank you.
