Medical assistants serve the public and their conduct should reflect the highest degree of professionalims at all times. While we cannot list each and every state in the USA that mandates a criminal background check to work with patients, one such state is Minnesota.

Minnesota state law mandates that an individual is disqualified from having direct patient contact as a result of a negative background study.

Wisconsin is another state where heath professionals must meet guidelines established by state statutes regarding caregiver background check information prior to participating in any clinical placement. Individuals with a negative report will not be permitted to work with patients in a licensed medical or healthcare facility.
